“Breathing” (2020) focusses on the nature of the accordion, which must inhale and exhale air to produce music, just as humans must breathe to survive. The accordion audibly “breathes” in my composition, and it is only by doing so that it can penetrate the silence which otherwise surrounds it. Out of its breathing comes music.
